New apparatus is being made bigger and heavier, thus many aging fire stations cannot house the new fire trucks in their bays. This is certainly true of quints, pumpers and tankers. Many quints now are coming with ladders over 100 feet and with tanks up to 500 gallons. Pumpers are coming with 2000 gpm pumps and 1250 to 1500 gallons or more tanks.
