About Auxier
Volunteer Fire Dept, Inc.:
Auxier Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. proudly protects 3000 people living
in an area of 30 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a
primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members
are on a volunteer status.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN! After a
house caught fire in the town of Auxier, the community responded to fight
the blaze. Auxier had no fire department at the time, so the citizen's would
fight a fire the best they could. This fire spread to an adjoining
structure, and started to blaze out of control. The township called on the
Van Lear Volunteer Fire Department, a small mining community located near
Auxier, for assistance. After they arrived, the fire was quickly
extinguished and the towns people were truly grateful. To show their
appreciation, the people took up a donation of about $50.00 and handed it to
the the Fire Chief of Van Lear. He asked if the community would like to
start their own fire department and the people quickly answered, Yes! He
then handed the money back to the people and said, Here is the first
donation. So, after many fund raiser's and soup bean dinner's, the Auxier
Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1969. The A.V.F.D. consists of all
volunteer's. Several of our department member's have been a volunteer
firefighter for over 20 year's. We take pride in our department and we are
especially proud of our community. We are not just people who go out when
there is a fire or an accident, we live and work in our community and we
take pride in saying we are the Auxier Volunteer Fire Department and when we
are needed, we'll be there!
