The Grand Chute
Fire Department was formed in 1938 by a group of townsmen with one fire
truck, which was stored in rented garages. In 1949, a second pumper truck
was purchased. In 1951, the department reorganized, and a new
fire station/town hall was built at 502 West Northland Avenue.
In 1976, a second fire station was built at 2920 West Highview Drive.
In February 1999, the fire department began to provide Emergency Medical
First Responder services for the town. Today, the Grand Chute Fire
Department provides fire, rescue and EMS First Responder services out of two
stations, operating four engines, an aerial ladder, a rescue truck, one
water tanker, several staff vehicles and a mobile cascade air trailer.
The department also provides fire
prevention and public education services to the community. The
department currently has an Insurance Service Organization rating of 4
(urban areas with fire hydrants) and 7 (rural areas not without fire
hydrants). The Grand Chute Fire Department currently responds to
approximately 1,300 fire and EMS calls a year. Fire Prevention
consists of over 3,200 inspections a year.
The Grand Chute Fire Department is a
"combination department" consisting of 10 full-time career personnel who
fill administrative positions and work during the day shift, 6:00 a.m. to
6:00 p.m., and up to 52 paid-on-call firefighters who staff the Headquarters
Station on the night shift, 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. |
